Just a quick post with some photos and a decent video clip of Murphy doing the Private Driving class at the Highland show on Saturday afternoon.
There was fog/drizzle/light rain all morning so we put up the gazebo to work in to get ready. By the afternoon it had dried up and was fine for the class.
Its only his third driving class and by a huge way the biggest and buzziest show he has ever been to. The other two were just driving society shows with no audience or stands or speakers or anything of that nature so taking him to a huge county agricultural show like that was a huge ask but he was great. He behaved great and did a lovely show (set show by the judge) with a nice figure of eight and rein back . We just need to work on an extension so that we can show a nice extension in his show and on the go round when we change the rein etc, he is just a novice so that is still being worked on. I thought it better to keep him nice and together rather than risk a poor extension and him going all pokey nosed and getting out of his rhythm. So need to work on his extension now and see if we can show a nice extension as that is what can really get you noticed in a class.
We ended up 6th out of 9 but considering we had a few HOYS turnouts in the class not bad at all for only his third show ! So got a lovely rosette and a lovely show place card for our efforts ! Like the place cards, never had them before as they dont get given out in the light horse classes I had done with my old pony and never been placed in the driving before so that was nice.
Had one huge disappointment though ! There are no Pro photos of the driving classes ! I went to the photographers stand after watching the championship which was up in the main ring (the classes were in another ring). He said, Oh, Your quick ! I have not got them downloaded yet ! Just back down from the ring ! I said , oh, no ! I am looking for the ones from the classes in ring 6 from earlier (about an hour and a half before). He said that he had went and asked about the driving classes and that he had been told it was just pre-judging and that we would all be going up to the main ring and he would get better photos there so he did not take any in the classes, only in the championship in the Main ring. So no Highland Show photo for me ! Gutted because everyone is over the moon with them and the new photographer has done a great job and everyone loves the photos he took but he was given duff info about the classes so ours got missed. I have a couple of photos of us on the way down to the ring and a video clip of us but would dearly have loved a really nice pro photo for his first time at the Highland !
