Mum & I are so glad that Solly has arrived safe and sound with you (we have been fretting a bit - silly, but we've had him since he was a teeny foal).
Glad that the he's settled in well with the donkeys too (I think that the Shetlands prepared him a bit for them... he couldn't quite work out what they were either) and that you like him so much!
Lots more photos please of his learning journey with you! xx
ETA: His normal everyday halter is the light blue one and I hope that you like the book too!! xxx

Thank you Tara, I love the leather head collar that he was wearing when he arrived. I have had a good look at the book this afternoon, it is fantastic. Thank you so much. He seems to be settling in extremely well and is very happy.

It's a well travelled headcollar - comes from America!
Mum has had a 'proper' look at the photos this morning (she has stopped fretting properly now) and is so glad that you like him so much.
He is a very special boy and deserves a fab home (and to have his mind kept stimulated!).
Lots more photos please!! xx

That is such fantastic news. ;D
Have you received everything back from the Haras National yet? They are normally pretty quick on turning around their paperwork.

No, but he hasn't sent it off yet!! We have been told that this passport is not legal in the UK, any ideas?
What did Solly have to drink from in the field, he seems to love playing with water and has so far wrecked a water trough, two baths and upturned the largest fullest bucket we have!!! ;D

I thought that any EU issued passport was legal, as long as the ULIN is on, ID of some sort such as sketch or microchip and the slaughter declaration pages. All I have seen have also had vaccination and inspection pages.

That's what I thought until someone bought two and had problems. Apparently, as the document is in several parts and the Microchip is on a different form the slaughter section, then we need another passport. Seems very strange, hence the ask. I'm sure tara knows. ;D

His passport is EU legal and as far as I am aware, Britain is part of the EU.
All new Breton passports are issued this way by the Haras National, which is (French) goverment run. It has to been a legal document as these horses are transported all through Europe (it was due to the great numbers that are imported to Germany who have a law against docking, that stopped the docking of the Breton horse) and infact worldwide (their are great numbers in Brazil and Japan even!).
Would suggest that you contact Jane Wordsworth from the British European Draft Horse Association - they deal exclusively with European bred breeds & will be able to give you better direction about DEFRA (Jane herself owns three french bred Comtois).
Yep! Solly does love water! We used either an old cattle trough in the field (long, but narrow) or old household water tanks (like you have in the loft of your house). The height and volume of water means he can't tip it). Do you have any streams by you that he can paddle in?

Firstly good luck with Solly - I have a soft spot for bretons - the first time I ever drove it was a pair of breton mares................!!! I do look forward to following his adventures! Secondly, I would be very suprised if the passport is not legal - the french are light years ahead of the UK in terms of horse passports - as Tara has said , the system is centralised (and has been for years and years) basically it works like this - horses and ponies in france are required to have a number and "passport" issued by the haras nationaux (although imports have their SIRE number (this is what the number is called) stamped into their existing passport these days - the passport is completed by a "certificate" of ownership that is completed by the buyer and seller and sent off within 8 days in case of a sale , and a new certificate issued - that means that a horse is always accompanied by it's passport (the passport is known as the "accompanying document"), but the owner keeps the ownership certificate - I always keep my passports and ownership certificates in different places. The passport issued by the Haras nationaux is only returned to them to be "validated" that is to say the intial description of the horse taken when it was a foal checked and signed by an approved vet (from 18 months old onwards) then sent to the HN to be rubber stamped and updated on the data base - this process may be repeated if a colt is gelded etc. Sorry to bore you but it may be of interest to someone.............

Huh? where did that post go Guys, thankyou. We personally culd see absolutely no reason why the passport may not be valid here, and I'm sure tara would have said something anyhow. We just thought we would check with those who know ;D Solly now has a metal cattle trough, he gave it a few kicks then gave up!! We have no streams but hope to take him to the beach which is 5 miles away, but our Council class horses as dogs so we cannot go until the dog ban ends. Duke detests water Everybody loves Solly, he really is a beauty and so soppy, martin is a very happy chappy ;D Will keep you updated
