Manou is a real love in the stable, he is also very handsome oozes presence and moves like a warmblood which for a haflinger is quite something, the problem is that he was left to his own devices for the first 6 years of his life - and that included his own harem! Just when you think you have cracked it, he brings you back down to earth. Yesterday he was given a good "workout" under saddle by my professionnel rider of a son in an arena (a very rare occurrance but not to be refused but generally is followed by a request of some sort.........)who commented on how much he had improved which gave me a real boost, today I decided to carry on the good work and go for a hack, he felt a bit tired (me thought) but I decided it was normal but was good natured and obedient UNTILL 500 metres from home, the local farmer came up behind us with his mega sized tractor, now Manou did not want the red beast to beat him up the lane and somehow we both ended up in the ditch (me and man that is), the farmer was in part responsible as he kept on trying to creep past instead of letting me ride past him!! aaah no injuries but annoying all the same!! what a pantomime, he can be a real idiot sometimes that horse!! Needless to say no carrots back in the yard!
