Hello all, I thought I had better say hello again as it is about a year since I have posted or been on here for various reasons. I hope to be more active on this forum this year - in fact I shall be as I have various carriage driving things that I would like to pick your brains about! As for the past year, well I did a season of nationals here in France with my pair of haffies, I got steadily better final scores as the year went on and did manage a 2nd place towards the end of the season (only because everyone else made more of a hash of things than me). It is becoming clear that I have a problem believing in myself and my ability, not helped by a couple of unfortunate and unpredictable mishaps this year which have bruised my already dodgy confidence. It is difficult to go out and compete, sometimes surrounded by people with trainers and a lot of money, or others with a lot of past sucess and confidence in themselves. So why do you do it I hear you ask! I compete because I enjoy it, my ponies are not the most talented on earth but I love them to bits, and get a real buzz from knowing that what we do is the result of my own work and a real partenership with them and teamwork with the rest of the family. So for 2009 I intend to work more on believing in myself, we also have a young pony coming on, not yet broken to drive, but lightly backed and riding out well, and the "boys" are evolving all the time!

Hello again. You can read all that you have missed I have found that doing something without mishap is the best thing for your confidence. Keep a diary and mark days that have gone well but ignore any that didn't, then you can look back and see all the marked days and think "Haven't I done well!" Good luck.

Good for you!!! I think now a days there is to much of a invasive on being the best and to be so competitive at the end of the day we should all take part in our chosen sports for the fun and love of the sport not because we have the best or can pay for the best trainers etc. The fun is in the taken part, bringing your horse on to a good standard of fitness and achieving the best results with you and your horses. I cannot be bothered with people who go out and get others to do all the work, for them to take the glory on competition day. I like to know that at the end of the day if I do well it is because of all the hard work I have put in! So keep your head held high and enjoy what you do!!! ;D Good Luck with you youngster and the upcoming season
