I have found a pony sized one for sale, and thought ti would be ideal for Bramble, but really don't know what to ask her regarding measurements?

From what I remember when I got Jazz's, I think the actual collars are all the same size, it's the neck straps that are different for pony, cob etc. Perhaps Zilco could tell you if you rang them.

I imagine you would get the same size as a conventional breast collar. Apparently they dont suit every pony and they put pressure on the wrong bit so some people have had problems with it breaking or threatening to break after some use.

Thanks for that gonewiththewind. As she seems happy in her standard breastcollar would you say we should just stick with that? I was told they are ment to be a lot more comfortable which is why I was looking at them?

Tazzle on here uses a zilco empathy collar with her mare - she would be the one to help with this question!

so long as there is room for her breast collar between the point of the shoulder and the windpipe I wouldnt change things. The empathy collars have a great place with natives that are lacking space for a conventional collar but why change it if all is well.

theya re good callrs for shallow chested cobs and native ........ fits Taz much better than her breast collar and has a larger surface arra in contact. I got one because she has a low head carriage and although her chest is wide a breast collar did not give her a lot of room ....especuially once polypad added !!! there are different sizes because recently I think they brought out one for littlies . main adjustment are the straps as jazz said. cob size fits Taz 14.1 broad welsh cob . www.rideanddrive.co.uk/they have full, cob, pony and mini .... so if relevant size harness fits bramble well I would stick to that size

I use Empathy Collars on my highland ponies. They allow more shoulder movement and sit around the chest better when there is not much room for an ordinary breast-plate. I do find it difficult sometimes to get the neck straps adjusted correctly with equal pressure on each strap.

I use one for my haflinger too - as he has massive shoulders and a very deep neck. He's a 14.2 and very broad accross the chest and has a full size. If anything it is perhaps slightly wide (top to bottom) on him but fits great around his shoulders - well I think so anyway - here's a couple of pics of him in action with it...
