Here's one of our juniors doing her first proper cones drivng show. She won best junior whip in the cones! ...and here she is with her special little mare, (having a year off to have a foal), that's why she's driving "Pants" in the above picture! She chose the red cart and harness (which I think is rather fun for a junior) she was 8 at the time! The only reason she got red was that I had enough red leather left over frm a job to make a little set for her!

This is Whiffy (special little girl) doing pairs in a cone driving class, Junior whip being junior grom for this time! ...and the reason she had a year off! everyone say ahhhhhhh! and to prove her versatility tandem! and a very special girl as anchour man in a unicorn! A pony in a million, take a junior anywhere safely, and teach the other horses too! Sadly out grown for riding, but worth her weight in driving

'Junior' refers to the whip(driver) however you can also have a novice whip and novice horse or pony. We have all been there at sometime.

There are prizes in some perfomance schemes for junior grooms too.
I think more prizes should be given for the grooms in shows and stuff. They do a heck of a lot to make a turnout succesful either in the showring or HDT.

I realy don't think there is enough encouragement for juniors. Too often they find them selves competing on equal terms with adults! How can an 8 year old in an exercise class or PD class compete, unless there is some sort of recognition for their efforts? Every BDS affiliated class should have a juniors prize! Perhaps we ought to arrange one through this website!!!! The Carriage Driving Forum Junor drivers' award?

Quite a few of our local shows used to present junior drivers with a special junior rosette and prize but as there is not that many juniors competing most shows have stopped this.

What a shame!
What's going to happen in the future?
Perhaps driving is something you take up these days in later life when you can no longer ride!
Right I will have to really impress those kids next week on the fun driving night!
