At last. On Friday my daughter and I took Rebel and the new carriage in the three-horse Wessex trailer to have a lesson with an instructor. It was great. Now the trailer has been modified to take the carriage and pony, I have been practicing loading and unloading Rebel, finding out which way he prefers to travel and taking him for a five minute drive so that he is used to the completely different travel arrangements to what he is used to with the Ifor Williams. He was very good and when we arrived he stood brilliantly for quite a long time while we fitted the harness and fiddled with the carriage to make sure everything was OK and Rebel was comfortable. We then went in the sand school and I drove him round, very tentatively at first as it was the first time I had driven a 4-wheeler and the first time my daughter had stood on the back of one. Very different to my little 2-wheeler. Rebel took to it straight away and we turned very tight circles (well, I thought they were very tight but the instructor said they could be even smaller) which Rebel obviously found so much easier with the 4-wheel carriage. There are a couple of adjustments to be made to the harness and shafts, which I have put in motion, and now we are looking forward to our first small competition of the year. So exciting.
