I've been through Missouri lovely state, a few years ago i was at a plantation in Charleston the American driving society were having a drive through the plantation grounds it was a fantastic sight to see! Charleston was 'vaguely' familiar, so I had to go look it up. Its down in the bootheel of the state, not too many hours away from where my grandmothers used to live in Marquand and Lutesville (now Marble Hill). Yep, down in the bootheel there are some lovely plantations, as well as swamps. They were growing cotton in the region when I was a child, but my parents tell my rice is a hot market currently. The state itself is huge, with landscapes going from flat prairie plains on the western and northern sections, to huge swaths of decidous forests, and the mixed, hilly/mountain sections further south that make up the Ozark mountains. It can be especially pretty in the fall with the leaves turning, or the spring with the flowers and trees in bloom.

of course, we drive every year. its a different route and we eat and drink and take the officials round. I think most of us find it the best day of the year.
