So how is everyone doing with the driving this summer? Have you been to shows / rallies / drives / enjoyed carefree drives alone / competitions? It's all gone rather quiet.
For Rebel and myself, we did a Trec and Gamblers cones in Surrey which was very enjoyable, coming 5th in the Trec and actually WON the cones, which was incredible because we don't usually win anything. It was such fun and Rebel was a very good boy. Then we did an inside/out competition and didn't do so well, which is our usual thing. We did an average dressage, knocked two down in the cones, clear in the obstacles but not very fast, eventually finishing 10th out of 11. A couple of weeks ago we went on a BDS social drive of 8 1/2 miles along quiet country lanes which was really pleasant on a beautiful day. Next weekend we are doing another inside/out and Rebel promises to try to go a bit faster!! Not too fast for me though!!

Oh, well done. Congratulations, that's brilliant. You must be so pleased. I love the two photos in your signature and am not surprised you do so well showing. Good luck with the youngster. How's he/she coming along?

I have treated myself to a 12 hand mule which I am getting ready to drive. We have to have a date with the dentist first as she is very unhappy with her mouth and may have retained caps or some such problem.
I am driving 3 days week RDA.

I have managed to get Gypsy out at last and did the Advanced single pony class at Sandringham HDT - no great shaked but really good fun! I'm also working with two 4yo sec Cs and they are coming along really well - singles - I have no desire to drive a pair! My hubby drives a pair of Gelderlanders and is currently trying for selection for the British Team - we'll see, one more selection event to go then we'll know. The World Pairs Champioship is in Conty in France this August. Hard work and the weather has been minging but I love it

How's he/she coming along? Thank you we're having the best season we've had in a long time ;D Jo Jo my youngster is coming on well he's a big lump of a horse who can't do enough for you so I'm really enjoying working with him, my young mare is a bit more timid she was broken as a two year old to do road racing we bought her not long after and have just allowed her to mature before working with her she is the perfect age now so we're slowly bringing her back into a training programme all new to her as she never got any schooling as such with her previous owner so all fun and game but well worth it wouldn't have it any other way

Rabasta; a mule! What fun. I'd love to see a photo. Is it similar training a mule to drive to training a horse/pony? Do you have to have special harness?
Zoonie - I am seriously impressed. That sounds fabulous.

Oh, I do like your mule; what's her name? I used to have a donkey when I was a child and we did donkey racing then. He was also broken to drive but I didn't drive him.
Yesterday (Sunday) we did an indoor/out which was very enjoyable. Didn't do particularly well, unfortunately, which was mainly my fault with the steering, but we didn't come last and we didn't make any errors of course, which is always a plus!

Well my daughter and I took Rebel on a BDS social drive today. It was 8 miles, mostly completed in the rain so we did get a bit wet. However, it was very pleasant and Rebel was a good boy except for shooting forwards when a carriage wheel went over a drain cover, making a lot of noise and making him jump. When we returned to the start and unhitched, the rain really started to come down so we were pleased to have gone out early. Mind you, it might have been better to wait until this afternoon because the sun has been out here from about 3 pm. onwards. Still, as an old friend of mine used to say, "A drop of rain won't hurt you."

Sounds like an enjoyable day =D we were competing today and even though the weather forecast was for rain we were very lucky as it stayed dry before, during and after competing however it was very muddy underfoot spent a good while washing the mud of the vehicle before loading it fingers crossed that tomorrow will be dry so I can get the vehicle out and give it a thorough clean the joys of summer =D

What a weekend! It was a training weekend with our driving club and for the first time Rebel and I stayed overnight and camped / corralled. Saturday was the training day with dressage, cones and obstacles, and great fun it was with a lot of learning done. Rebel behaved beautifully in the corral overnight without any noise or running about, so I was pleased with him. I "slept" in the trainer in a sleeping bag. Rebel did have a visitor at 5.30 am - a pony who had pushed his way out of his corral - so I had to get up and return him, mend his fencing and get back into the sleeping bag. Then today (Sunday) was the competition. Our dressage test went pretty well, I thought, so I was pleased with that. The afternoon saw us doing two lots of cones and two obstacles plus a mini marathon. I was delighted with the way Rebel went, forward going (for him) and rhythmic. We would have done quite well if I hadn't had a senior moment in obstacle No. 1 and gone through E three times!! Heaven knows what I thought I was doing. However, the most important part of the weekend from my point of view was that it taught Rebel to drink when he is away from home. He didn't touch his water on Saturday but today he drank a whole bucket and I was so pleased for him. Oh yes, and we had lovely weather throughout, so all in all a very good weekend.
